As is somewhat expected by this point in the series, we see Angel continue to grow and evolve in this book. Only this time she does a bit of regressing as well as she succumbs to chemical temptations for the first time in a long time. She's got her eyes open to it though, and resolves not to fall down that hole again after all the progress she's made in getting her life on track. Still, with events heating up and calling for her to bring her A-game to play more and more at the same time that she finds herself feeling less and less well, it's understandable perhaps that she would look for some artificial pick-me-ups to help her stay sharp. She can only hope that the cost won't be too high...

Those who have read the first two books of this series should pretty much know what to expect from this book and for the most part you won't be wrong. Angel is still her adorable self and she continues to ratchet the respect bar higher and higher in her continuing journey of self-discovery and ever-growing self-confidence and self-respect. Many of the stories from the first books are continued here and explored further, some from different and sometimes surprising angles. Again there are tropes at work here that I don't personally care for usually, but they didn't annoy me as much in this book as they did in the last one. Perhaps because there are enough surprises in store to keep things interesting.

Angel Crawford is finally starting to get used to life as a brain-eating zombie, but her problems are far from over. Her felony record is coming back to haunt her, more zombie hunters are popping up, and she’s beginning to wonder if her hunky cop-boyfriend is involved with the zombie mafia. Yeah, that’s right--the zombie mafia.

Throw in a secret lab and a lot of conspiracy, and Angel’s going to need all of her brainpower--and maybe a brain smoothie as well--in order to get through it without falling apart.

A great follow-up to the impressive first book in this series, Angel is every bit as loveable in this book as she was before. Perhaps even more so in some ways, for she continues to come more and more into her own as time goes on. Though this one gets into some tropes that I personally don't really care for much, it was still a very enjoyable book and quite engaging to listen to (I did the audiobook version for various reasons.)

While this book can stand alone and is fully understandable without having read the first book, reading them in order can help you to understand a few things that happen or are mentioned a bit better. This book expands upon the universe created in book one, filling in some more blanks about it and giving us a larger picture of what the world is like in this post-apocalyptic future.

My Review
I'm not entirely sure what to say about his story because it is very short and there isn't much to it besides a few pages of stage setting and then a sex scene, followed by a couple pages that mostly serve to set the stage for the next installment in this serial. The writing isn't bad, and the world seems like it might be interesting, there's just not enough here to really judge that yet. The revelations that come toward the end seems very convenient and also to come a bit too easily and in a manner that's a bit too offhand. An "Oh yeah, I'm *spoiler* and by the way *spoiler*" kind of thing.

The characters are ok, but as is usually the case with stories as short as this one, we don't really see enough of them to get any real feel for who they are and what their personality is like, etc. These characters don't even really exist as stereotypes here, for they're not much more than names. We don't get to see much of their thoughts aside from "I think he/she is hot and I want him/her". We do see a little bit of Wunder's interacting with her father at the beginning, but still not enough to get much sense of personality from her outside of "typical young woman with the hots for a guy who's anxious to go see if she can catch his eye".

In the final analysis I suppose I have to declare myself neutral on this one. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. The fact that I dislike zombies, generally speaking, might be part of the reason why, though really I think it's more to do with the fact that there's just very little story here for me to react to. 2½ stars I think, though I've given it the benefit of the doubt and rounded up to 3.

As is evident by the title and the description, this book is inspired by the classic fairytale, Rapunzel. Our heroine has been locked away in a tower from which she can't escape for nearly half her life with no way to escape it and dependent upon her jailor/caretaker to bring her supplies. She brings the supplies (and later Dane) up into the tower by means of a rope made from human hair. That is pretty much where the similarities end however, and what follows is quite unique.

A fun book that I enjoyed far more than I originally thought I would. Zombies aren't normally my thing, but this book made them relatable and normal-seeming. Right from the start Ms. Rowland has you sympathizing with Angel, and rooting for her to figure out how to survive and to thrive in her new life. While there are some scenes and descriptions that are more than a little gross, the ick factor is usually mitigated with humor to help make it less repugnant.

An interesting take on zombies, with a bit of kink thrown in to add spice. Of course, when you're talking zombies in an erotic short story, how could there not be a bit of kink involved? These aren't the typical horror movie half-rotted corpse type zombie though, or at least the one (two?) we see aren't. Their exact nature is never fully explained aside from a general description of how they came to be and some hints that the physical symptoms/manifestions of the infection vary depending on several factors. A great many of them are apparently not much different from normal people aside from odd grey eyes and some interesting temperature extremes in their bodies. The temperature difference between surface skin and extremities being ice cold to the core of the body being feverishly hot become significant in the main sex scene of the book and makes for some pretty smoking hot sex. The author really does a good job of making you imagine how the temperature difference would feel when...involved...with a xombie.

Aside from the sex, the story is intriguing and well written, though not enough information is given to know what sort of situation the narrator is getting himself into really with the new job offer from his friend Mitch. We're given constant reassurances that the guy trusts Mitch implicitly and doesn't believe he'd trick him into getting involved with something bad, but Mitch is evasive enough with his answers and just generally acting kind of strange that you're not really sure if it's safe to trust him. Hopefully the subtitle of "Volume One" means there will be a follow-up story at some point that will explain more. While I'm not generally all that into reading zombie stuff, this one has me intrigued enough that I'd read a sequel to it to find out more about what's going on in this world and with the company that Mitch works for in particular. Zombie fans will like this one, but fans of the paranormal or of unusual sorts of erotica would probably like it as well.
